21st March

Savitha Narasimhan (Carnatic Vocal)

She chose appropriate ragas for the evening and it was an enjoyable performance. The accompanying artistes should also be given due credit for their performance. (Mrs. Vijayam B.Sharma)

Savitha is gifted with a very mellifluous, sweet voice.Another significant aspect of her music is the perfect alignment to Sruthi. Her music stands for all that is traditional and chaste in Carnatic Music. Her music portrays simplicity and at the same profound vidwath. In kalpana swaras, her sarva laghu patterns were enticing, her niraval replete with raga bhava. (Mala Mohan)

She has a soft and malleable voice which came in handy for an excellent Mohana raga alapana. She exhibited her knowledge of ‘raaga swaroopam’ and strict adherence to tradition. The accompanyists gave able support. (G.Ramkumar)

Savitha’s performance which had a compact audience, kept them glued to their seats. Her piece de’ resistance, in Mohanam, was superb. Most satisfying concert indeed. (K. Jagadeesan)

Ranjani Rangan (Bharatanatyam)

Her recital did credit to her guru in her approach which was sincere and effortful. A well rehearsed recital fantastically supported by gifted vocalists and seasoned accompanists. Definitely the highlight was the scintillating nattuvangam by Guru Sri V.Balagurunathan. (Dr.Mrs.Siri Rama)

It was a fabulous dance performance. Her adavus and bhavas were very good. The energy was present in every piece of the dance. The Dasavatharam choreography was very good. Ranjani did justice and she clearly expressed each Avatar. Her devotion towards Lord Vishnu made me very emotional. I liked the starting item, Gambhira Natanam, best of all. All the best to her. (Padma R)

I liked Dasavatharam stories, it was short and crisp. There were Avathara mudras in the swarams also which made it easy to hold the Saathyibavam. Her stamina was very good. (R.Swarna)

Ranjani’s pushpanjali was marked by breezy patterns. Gambeera Natanam was excellently choreographed by Sri. V.Balagurunathan. Sriranjini varnam was rendered in a traditional and graceful way. Ranjani’s abhinaya is definitely her strong point. (By Gayathri Sriram)
